Quoth the Qallupilluk:

“Hey there little-guy, aren’t you the cutest? Would you like to go with me? I have candy…”

Kith Excerpt:

The Qallupilluk is an aquatic family of Wapsu that live deep beneath the icy waters of the North. Perhaps one of the most misunderstood of the Northern Nunnehi families; the Qallupilluk is also one of the most frightening. This all-female Family has been whispered about for as long as there have been mortals in the northern climes to whisper about it. Not concerned with petty politics or tribal matters, a Qallupilluk’s only care is about being a mother. To this end, they seek out children (changelings or no) and seek to abduct them. Once kidnapped, the child begins a metamorphosis that results in another Qallupilluk. (Even the male children so abducted eventually become a Female).

In ancient times, the Qallupilluks stood to serve as a warning to Mothers who didn’t watch their children, or children who didn’t heed their Mothers. What has grown from this is something far unhappier. This quest for the young ones doesn’t stem from any malevolence on the Qallupilluk’s part. Unlike other Hags, such as River or Annis who seek out fat little children to eat, this need for children only comes from a paralyzing dread of loneliness, and the fear of not achieving the wonders of Motherhood.

The Qallupilluk maintain some ties to the other families of the North. Viewed with distrust, they are none-the-less awarded a voice in inter-tribal Nunnehi affairs (the better to keep an eye on them say the others). Their ability to traverse the cold underwater realms of the Arctic allows for messages to be delivered to the most inhospitable of locations with unmitigated speed and accuracy. To this end, the Qallupilluk are often asked to be go-betweens for all the creatures of the North. For this reason alone, many of the Nunnehi elders turn a blind-eye towards might other-wise be a punishable offense, as long as the Children stolen go to a better place, (one that only the Qallupilluks know, and the others are afraid to think about).
