Quoth the Ceasg:
“How is a Raven, like a writing desk? Och, you’ve cut me to the quick… Hah! Bollocks! It’s not like you’re asking me a hard riddle, now izit? Ask me another worth me time…”
Kith Excerpt:
Loki and Fintan and how many other slippery, gods, magicians, or Fair-ones were Salmon-changers what knew the secrets of slippery escapes? All were devilishly quick in body and wits, and all were infinitely wiser than the average joe-schmo who thought he could pull a quick one. One lovely looking wicht (Kith) of the Northlands inherits the slick spirits of those long-passed entities – the Ceasg. They are all women, mind, and if any males of the Tribe ever existed, none can say.
Like the Selkies and Swan Mays and Shelley-coats of yore, the Ceasg mantle is inherited, passed down from elder to kinain in a circle of rainbow scaled rebirth. However, it is a lot harder to catch a Ceasg, as they don’t give up their birthrights so easily.
Their birthright is that of aeons old knowledge, kennings passed down through ancestry. Every Ceasg has the matrilineal voice of her foremothers always at the ready to provide clues to riddles and to offer sage advice. More than simple mermaids as some of the erstwhile Kithain would believe, the Ceasg wichts are river Goddesses of the most ancient lineage.

“Though I am old with wandering Through hollow lands and hilly lands,
I will find out where she has gone, And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass, And pluck till time and times are done,
The silver apples of the moon, The golden apples of the sun.”
– William Butler Yeats, “The Song of Wandering Aengus”
