Quoth the Yuki-Onna:

“Shh… Go to sleep. It’s okay, you saw something you weren’t supposed to see… and that’s okay. Just go to sleep.”

Kith Excerpt:

An all-female family of Japanese Shinma, the Yuki-Onna are a family as infamous for their hungry needs as they are for their beauty. They are creatures birthed in the ice and snow of Nippon’s tempestuous winters and frigid mountain-tops. They are polite, honest, beautiful; a wonderful girlfriend or wife to any paramour that risks the cold to win their affections. But only so long as they don’t surmise the Yuki-Onna’s true nature as an Ice-Maiden. It is their great curse to live out secret lives as elemental forces of winter’s touch.

While other Shinma may know of their true Fae nature, mortals in their life must never find out the truth. Those mortals that do, end up the victims of the Yuki-Onna’s wrath (See Secrets kept frailty below). With all the powers of winter’s destruction at their beck, the fury of the Yuki-Onna is a scary thing for anyone to witness, especially the naïve mortal youth unaware of his lover’s true power prior to the courtship. Most all of these trysts end up with the human suitor a victim of the Yuki-Onna’s unbridled passions.

While this unleashing of emotions may not be a dramatic climactic scene of an unchecked blizzard, it still ends poorly for the mortal. A last silent kiss as the temperature drops faster and faster, and the mortal sinking slowly into the Yuki-Onna’s embrace are sometimes enough to quell the excitement of the mortal’s discovery. This happens more often than any Yuki-Onna would like.

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”
